Just curious what other's thoughts are concerning the Mitsubishi DLP RPTV's? Wife and I are eyeing the Mitsubishi 73" WD-73727 pretty darn hard but I haven't really seen many reviews or much chatter around the internet regarding this TV.
Other suggestions?

TIA, Rick

What is your basis for this statement? While I think they are very nice I personally like the Samsung line better. I found the Samsung picture to more detailed.

Everywhere you look on AV related sites you will see this debate. Mitsu or Sammy. Well, the facts are these.

Sammy pictures to many have been described as more smoothed and film-like while Mitsu pictures look more defined and "harsh" to some. By harsh I mean crisp and less smooth. Some people like smooth. Some like crisp.

Other than that, the real question you should be asking is "where can I view a Sammy and a Mitsu". Only your eyes can tell you if that TV is right and only you can find out if things like RBE occur for you and your wife. They are both excellent brands. Go look at them and do a test based upon price, features, and how your eyes perceive the picture. If you are getting your TV based solely (or even moderately) on reviews then you may as well just buy the one you think you like and save everyone the time of reading and writing about it. Without looking at them and comparing directly, the debate is moot and the outcome will be the same. You would be buying a TV based upon someone else's subjective opinion. You are better off making your own opinion which is, of course, just my opinion.

Cheers,
Wiley

PS. My eyes prefer Samsung too.

Just my opinion. I just like the way the Mitsubishi's picture give blacks and rich dark scene more detail. I also like Mitsubishi's DLP chips.

Wiley is 100% right. Only your eyes can tell you. The only problem is where you view them. And the video source being used to view them. Weak signals, calibration all play a part.

Bingo. Try finding many dealers that do any calibratiion. I went to a dealer in Va that I regard highly. I have bought things from them for nearly 30 years. Many of the same people have been there for over 20 yrs. They seem to be very knowledgeable. I viewed the new Sony SXRDs, a Mits and some of last (read current) years JVCs. None of them had been adjusted at all. They all were in the factory mode...contrast all the way up, etc. I couldn't believe it. I had to make the guy adjust the sets to half way make a comparison.

To me, in the hour or so I was there, the Sony looked the best. He is expecting the new JVCs in any time and will put the new Mits Diamond out soon as well. He suggested waiting untill all of them were out to make a decision. Good advice, even if I will have to spend all day adjusting and comparing.

Warning

IF YOU EVER HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A MITSUBISHI TV - like I did It will take a long time to get it fixed/replaced. My Mitsubishi WD62525 broke at the end of July. I dealt with Mitsubishi's TERRIBLE customer service for 3 months and finally got a new HDTV at the end of October.
They sent service guys out to fix it and couldn't remedy the problem. They contacted Best Buy and tried to do an exchange and didn't know where to send the paperwork to. I had to pretty much help myself with the whole issue. MITSUBISHI'S CUSTOMER SERVICE is THE WORST I've ever dealt with. I will NEVER buy from them again. I have a new Toshiba 62" HDTV and I love it. The overall picture quality is better than the Mitsubishi. I found the colors in the Toshiba to be more vibrant than those of a Samsung.

That's why you Never purchase from BEST BUY or any other Big Box Company. I always go to the boutique store and get great customer service. My Mitsubishi 60" Gold series power supply broke a few months ago. I've had this television since it came out. How long is that? It was fixed within 2 weeks. If you guys think that the big box stores are saving you money they are not. You can get the same or better deals from the little guys.

And please, how can you even say Toshiba has a better picture then a Mitsubishi? They are not even in the same league.

Best Buy was not a problem at all. Dealing with Mitsubishi was a nightmare. Once I got a hold of Best Buy for the exchange i got a new TV within a week. It took Mitsubishi 2 weeks along with MY help to figure out what number to fax the exchange authorization papers to.

As for the picture quality I wasn't really all that impressed with Mitsubishi. It was good, don't get me wrong. Side by side the new Toshiba looks better. The colors are more vibrant and true. Also, the Mitsubishi HDMI was really bad. I had to hook up everything through component cables.
