Mitsu HD1000 Blanking Out in 1080i... Help!

I'm coming up on my first year anniversary with my HD1000. I mostly watch movies and am pleased... A couple months ago, I upgraded my DISH network system to HD... Now, whenever I watch any of the HD channels it blanks out for a couple seconds every 4or5 minutes or so. When the menu is up while it does this the 1080i changes to xga60 (or something like that). ANNOYING!

Anyone ever have this problem and what was the fix?

The first thing I would do is pick up a different HDMI cable and try it out. You can get a fairly inexpensive one from www.monoprice.com - just try a short one if you can to give it a try.

My guess is that it is in the HDCP over HDMI.

You could go to component video and I expect the problem would go away.

The Chord!

Because I have xbox360, an hd player and dish hd, I bought an hd switch box... All hooked up with comp cables. I disconnected the switch and wired it direct... problem solved.

Next issue... I've noticed a high pitch whine coming from the projector... Not too loud but just loud enough to be annoying. I thought it was the fan but when you shut it down and the fan keeps going the noise stops. Any ideas?

Sounds like the color wheel motor. The color wheel is one of the most notorious parts for going bad on DLP projectors, and if it is whining, it is likely due to the bearings.

Unfortunately, beyond me taking an educated guess at that being the issue, I can't tell you how to fix it. This may be a better question for AVS Forums if you can find someone technical enough to help, but could be as simple as opening the case and putting a dot of oil/grease on the motor... which is NOT what I am saying to do. :D Good luck!
