Missing Mic for Pioneer MCACC

My Pioneer receiver (VSX92-TXH) has the MCACC automatic equalizer setup. But, I am missing the Pioneer mic that attaches to it to do the automatic setup.

Does anyone have any suggestions for alternate ways of leveling/adjusting my speakers and sub? Any apps for iPad or Android I could use that will get me pretty close without buying a replacement mic?

The mics that the manufacturers send with the AVRs are understandably cheap and inaccurate, meaning they do not exhibit flat frequency response. The AVRs have built-in calibration that essentially reverses the mic’s inaccuracies. In other words, if the mic has a 6 dB peak at 4 kHz, the calibration introduces a 6 dB dip at 4 kHz, to compensate and render frequency response flat at 4 kHz. Thus when MCACC runs, it can calibrate the system the same as if an expensive laboratory-grade measurement mic was being used.

So as you can imagine, you can’t hook up just any mic to the AVR and expect good results. There will be no issue in the auto speaker leveling etc. function, but for example (using the example above), if the substitute mic is flat at 4 kHz, when the system auto equalizes the calibration will insert the dip in response at 4 kHz that was in place for the original mic.

Your best bet will be to get an original mic. Ebay is a good source.
