An oldie but a goodie. I read the book long ago and probably watched the movie in a theater up in Canada way back when but I seem to have forgotten a lot of the scenes. Maybe the Blockbuster version was being played to the Canadians because the footage showing his legs was pretty gruesome yet I have no recollection of it. Yet one of my favorite lines about Annie's laughing place seems to have been cut. Upon being asked if she laughs there she responds, "sometimes but mostly I just scream". Is it me or are there different cuts? Google time! :)

Transfer quality? Good, I guess. What do I look like ... j_garcia? :D
It did look good in certain scenes. I'm actually interested to hear what John thought of it. The movie had the niece, myself and my g/f on the edge of our seats and feeling Paul Sheldon's considerable pain. I don't buy movies often but for those who do this to me is definitely a good one.

I don't remember an actual pig from 20 years ago ... not even in the book.
Am I loosing my marbles?

Good movie, but Annie was MUCH worse to Sheldon in the book. I remember him having to drink dirty mop water to survive. And didn't she actually cut off one of his feet instead of just breaking his ankles?

Yeah, but the hobbling scene was easily one of the most painful scenes I had seen since Reservoir Dogs.

I have this one on SD, so I am not sure I will get around to the Blu, but it is a very entertaining movie.

I've got it on dvd so no need to upgrade. I haven't watched it in a few years, but I do recall there being pigs. Might have to pull it out and put in my queue (after I finish watching all 3 seasons of Kung Fu).

I do also remember in the book that she cut off one of his thumbs with a electric carving knife and put it on top of his birthday cake and she ran over one of the police officers with a lawn mower the book was a lot more violent.

;) Great movie for Kathy Bates - she fits into Stephen King movies very well!

Enjoy Alex ;)

Peace, Good Sound and Good Video.

P.S. - Blu Ray is awesome

My memory is pretty shoddy, but I recall reading in the book that she used the pigs to git rid of a person or two (I believe one was an abusive husband and a deformed child of hers) and so no evidence was ever found. She also said they were cleaner and better than dogs.

also SK is notorius for intermingling his novels, so the cop run over by lawnmower is mentioned in Misery, She read a story in the news which gave her the idea. That story was in reference to the "Lawnmower Man" a short story about a man who eats grass (and anything that gets in his way including people and groundhogs) and nothing like that crappy movie. In fact every one of his books will reference another one of his books (except Carrie his first novel)

Is there a need to transfer bad film quality movies to Blu-Ray? The sound and picture don't tend to get any better (in most cases.)

The scene with the sledge, and the block of wood, anyone would cringe. I remember the book being much better in the fact that she was way more terrible to the author. But then again, none of Stephen King's movie's have been thrown onto the screen well, the best mention being "The Stand" :D

He actually had a couple of good movies based upon his books: Carrie, the Green Mile, the Shining, Stand By Me, & the Shawshank Redemption were all big hits, IIRC. There were also plenty of others that may not have been Oscar material but were pretty popular and entertaining (Pet Sematary, Cujo, Christine, the Running Man, etc). Overall I've got to agree with you though, many of his stories didn't translate well to the cinema and were cheesy B-movies at best.

I keep forgetting that he was the one who wrote shawshank and Green mile, they're very different from his regular style because they have happy agreeable people in them, not really; either way, I know what I mean, hopefully you do too.
