Somehow this got to be the movie of the night for our group, but, surprise, it's not too bad. An adaptation of the Snow White story, it's rescued by the excellent cast. Julia Roberts has lapsed into evil crone-hood as the wicked queen, Lily Collin is OK (just OK) as Snow, but the show is stolen by excellent ensemble of seven small actors, as the 7 Dwarves. They are witty, animated (in the human sense, not CG), and considering the roles, surprisingly engaging. Nobody sings Hiho Hiho, and they definitely are not into off to work we go. Much about it seemed odd to me, especially the Queen's castle, but it made sense at the end when I noticed that it was an Indian director and that the credits were accompanied by a pretty good Bollywood production number. All in all, it's a qualified endorsement if you're in a loose frame of mind, very much NOT Disney.
