Mirage or Paradigm?

Our local home theater store is having it's annual speaker sale. The store(East Hamilton Radio) features Paradigm, Mirage, Klipsch, and Monitor Audio among others. I have no real interest in Klipsch and Monitor Audio, just due to financial considerations, but, Mirage's Omni series and Paradigm's Monitor series are right in my ballpark budget-wise. I wonder how the Omni 60 compares to the Monitor 8. If anyone has heard both of these or either of these, I would love to find out how they compare.

I've never heard of the Monitor 8, but I have listened to both the monitor 7 and Monitor 9 and loved the sound. Very natural sounding speaker that doesn't color the music too much, which is how I like it, to hear music the way it was meant to be heard.

Haha, no big deal, its noon somewhere, but the 9's I really liked had some really good midbass quality with those Dual 8's and the tweeter on the monitor series is great too, so its a win win situation

EHR has a big sale on....i live in Port dover, just an hour away. I have gotten the paradigm monitor 7's with the cc370 and titans as surrounds. They are great and i Love them. Definately take a close look at the paradigms, i think they are tough to beat value wise, especially in canada. Good luck and have fun with it.

Eddie, will they be used as part of a HT or just two channel listening? Have you listened to them? If so which did you like better?

I've listened to the Monitor 7's and Omni 260's and both are excellent speakers in their price range. The 260's have a bigger sound stage which is what Mirage speakers are all about. The 7's sound more precise to me and have slightly better bass. If I was going to use them for mainly HT I'd seriously consider the Mirage but if I was doing mostly two channel listening I'd go with the Paradigm speakers. I've read that Mirage maybe updating their Omni series soon so you may get a very good deal on the 260's.

Duff is correct, my preference leans toward the Monitor 9s. :D

Oh what hard choices

IMO you can't go wrong. If you haven't experienced Mirage's Omni design, it takes a while to get use to, but it works. If your used to a more traditional design, go with the paradigms. Both speakers are great.

The same holds true about LOOKING at the Signature series. One of the prettiest speakers I've every seen.

A Signature series audition could be a very expensive one. Even a Reference series audition could become expensive (it did for me). But your ears will thank you.
