That's one of the reasons I use Firefox as browser software.
I'm not sure Firefox is any safer.

>>>Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered over 40 malicious browser extensions for Mozilla Firefox that are designed to steal cryptocurrency wallet secrets, putting users' digital assets at risk. . . . The large-scale campaign is said to have been ongoing since at least April 2025, with new extensions uploaded to the Firefox Add-ons store as recently as last week.<<<

All browsers have malicious extensions, sadly, so I use very few extensions. This means that I'll miss out on potentially very useful extensions.

For Firefox I only use uBlock Origin, NoScript, Tree Style Tab and Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on (by Google).

A little while ago, I added Malwarebytes Browser Guard as an extension to the Firefox browser. I'm also one of the few people to have a lifetime Malwarebytes Premium license which I trust to protect me. I've been using it for 20 years without any breach. Actually, I am always warned of a risk suggesting that I don't continue on a dubious site.

For Firefox, I use uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, Malwarebytes Browser Guard, and Don't Track Me Google as I use GMail.

I recently added the Malwarebytes Browser Guard, but I'm not sure I really trust anything online.

At the risk of getting too far off topic, Salt Typhoon was an eye-opener. The news just keeps getting worse.

Storm-0558 was also disconcerting.

Hopefully the following won't cause this thread to turn into a political dumpster fire, but I also wonder why the Cyber Safety Review Board (CRSRB) was disbanded.

>>>The CSRB’s latest undertaking—a probe into Salt Typhoon, a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group targeting U.S. telecommunications infrastructure—was abruptly halted. Experts believe the insights from this investigation could have been instrumental in mitigating future cyber threats.

According to Willy Leichter, the CMO for AppSOC, dismantling these expert boards will delay progress on key cybersecurity issues by years in the best case. In the worst case, it will be disastrous.<<<

When I say I wonder why it was disbanded, that's not a veiled condemnation, I really do wonder why it was disbanded. As noted in the article DHS said it was to "eliminate misuse of resources" but that is not specific enough to determine if it was in fact a misuse of resources. I don't know enough about the topic to say much of anything beyond an initial gut reaction.

Mods: Please feel free to delete my post if you think it's too far off topic.

Where to look which ones I have?
For Firefox?

In the address field type "about:addons" like in the snapshot below. Several add-ons can have very similar names and icons (some malicious ones do this to trick users), but click on the "..." and select "Manage" to see the author and homepage. You can use this to verify it's the right add-on.

Try this with typing "edge://extensions". You can also come at this by clicking "..." in upper right corner, click on "Extensions" and then "Manage Extensions" in the resulting popup.
