Message: HD Content Protection compromised ...

Hmmm....

I first tried this cabling:
HDMI cable from Comcast Moto 6412 DVI out
to
DENON 3806 HTML in

and get no video and this message:

"The HD content protection of your display has been compromised. Please use the YPbPr outputs for your HD connection."

So I now send HDMI (for video) from Cablebox directly to TV, bypassing DENON and
cable audio from Cablebox 5.1 SPDIF port out to DENON coax 1 in.

But I sure would like to pass both video and audio over a single HDMI cable (That's its benefit, right?).

Any insights? Is there a firmware upgrade available for DENON and/or Comcast to deal with this apparent HD protection incompatability?

HDMI issue

Note, the digital cable from your cable box to reciever and HDTV is called HDMI not HTML.
HDMI uses the HDCP copy protection scheme. It sounds like your cable box does not properly support HDCP causing the error on your receiver. Ask the cable company for a firmware update for your cable box and it should fix the problem.

The cable company (Comcast) insists that it is Denon who doesn't support the HDCP protocol. I've been told that by others as well. Thanks.

Here is an easier way. DVI/HDMI from cable box to the TV, and optical from cable box to denon. It will work 100% of the time. :)

Yes, thanks, Zuke. That is exactly how I am working around the issue. I am just curious as to why I can't cable it the other way. If it's a true copy protection issue that can be resolved, I'd like to learn how. Either the cable box or the Denon 3806 is splurting out this message. I paid for the second HDMI in on my Denon. I'd like to actually use it. :) Do you know why the HDMI from box to AV cabling doesn't work? Thanks.

Either the Denon or the cable box wasn't implemented correctly. Just as a reminder, this is the content distributors/producers screwing you over. I hope you get annoyed at them for it.

i have this exact same problem with my onkyo sr-803. after spending over an hour on the phone with onkyo, cox cable (my HD-DVR provider), and scientific atlanta (DVR manufactuer), i found out the problem with both your denon and my onkyo is they both use HDMI version 1.1 and I would bet the rent your cable box is using HDMI version 1.0 the same as mine. I was also told by my cable provider that they have "no imediate plans" to do any firmware updates re: HDMI. for this very reason I,m going to return my onkyo and get the Outlawaudio 1070 (uses DVI switching and was told by them that it will work for video only even with the different HDMI versions, I'll just have to use optical for audio as I'm doing now). HDMI ver. 1.1 is not compatable with ver. 1.0 and has a "handshake" problem (defferent HDCP language)

cpate212 and Josuah ... thank you both. I suspected that this issue would come down to something like this.

Problems like this are par for the course! HDMI 1.1 is not so great.
