Television: LG Model: 37LD450

When I insert a usb memory stick into this tv, the following error message appears: "no storage units available."

I am trying to view a .jpg photograph stored on the memory stick.

Thanks for any tips on how to view the photo on the tv.

The error message sounds like it is indicating that the thumb drive is out of space but that shouldn't matter unless the TV needs to write to it. It should not need to write to it if all you are attempting to do is view photos on it (and hence read it, not write to it).

Programmers often don't come up with meaningful error messages and the real problem could be anything.

- It could be that the .jpg's are too big, have filenames that are too long for it to handle, or a directory structure that is too deep.

- It could be that the particular memory stick you are using is not recognized because its storage capacity is too high, it was formatted with a filesystem the TV can't read, etc.

- It could be that the TV requires a particular directory structure for .jpg or even require that they all be in the root directory.

I know this doesn't really help but TVs have all kinds of restrictions for playing audio and image files from a USB drive. Does the manual have a troubleshooting section that mentions that particular error message?

I tried another usb key and that one worked.

However, I notice that some photos display well, and others don't display at all. I'm new to viewing photos on an lcd tv, so I need to figure out what's going on.

For example, one photo that displays well is 1800x1200 pixels, and has a document size of 5x4 inches (according to Adobe Photoshop). Yet, another image that doesn't display at all is 2200x2293 pixels with a document size of 7x7 inches. The photo that does not display has a size reading of 0x0 on the lcd tv monitor. I tried reducing the size of the image that doesn't display to 1800x1796 to more closely resemble the photo that displays well, and the result is that the newly sized photo doesn't even get acknowledged on the usb key at all when viewed on the lcd tv. All photos are in .jpg format.

I can't draw any conclusions from comparing these two examples.
Both have a similar pixel and document size.

Maybe usb media is less stable than if I viewed the photos with a dvd-r disc.
I may be grasping at staws here, but I don't know what else to think.

I have it figured out now.
I found and followed the size limitations for this lcd tv.
When keeping within the defined sizes, the photos display okay.
