Media serving recommendations please

Hello I would like to make a remote media server setup like the logitech duet. I dont know of any other offerings that can do this functionality.

I would like to stream music from my computer and have it changeable via a remote anywhere in my apartment.

Im not an audiophile but crappy audio annoys me. I have also seen the sonos system but its expensive and I can live with turning speakers on and off when i want them. Im also ok with only having one possible stream coming from my computer.

It will be streamed from my Creative Live! 24b sound card which isnt super high end.

Do you have any recommendations for this setup?
I was thinking get a Duet and maybe upgrade it with the boulder upgrade some day?

You could get cheaper unit:

and add external speakers/receiver later on using digital/analog connectors.

Or Install Itunes on your pc, and get ipod touch (new $200), install free iTunes remote on it and have remote control from anywhere in your house (as long as wifi signal reaches it)

also you can get Apple Airport Express, which will allow to connect speakers remotely, yet still stream music from your main pc.

I'm confused (my normal state). You want to stream music and have it changeable from any room. Are you trying for a single whole house audio system or do you just want to be able to listen to while in individual rooms? Do you have AVRs and TVs connected in the rooms you want to stream to? If so you can use network media players and control them separately from each room.

I have the duet and I really like it. You can change the music from the remote or from your computer/laptop any were in the house. However, BoredSysAdmin is also right. I just don't have an ipod touch. And the remote is a good conversational piece, which leads to showing off your system, which leads to envious looks from your friends, which leads to impressing the girls, which leads to my wife asking me what I'm doing
