Measuring In-room frequency response with Radioshack SPL

Pretty simple question here: What is the best method for measuring in-room frequency response of a stereo system (fronts and sub) using a radioshack SPL meter and graph paper or a computer program that allows one to manually enter the SPL at certain frequencies as the test disc plays them?

I have an excel spreadsheet that allows me to enter SPL values for frquencies ranging from 16Hz to 200Hz. It even corrects for the radioshack meter errors and displays a graph. I can e-mail that to anyone who would like to see it.

I want to measure the entire range from 20Hz to 20Khz and then use the recievers built in manual EQ to bring down the peaks. I know...no boosting the valleys!

So, is there a program (free or not) that allows me to enter the data while listening to a test tone CD? Is there an excel spreadsheet or a graph paper that I could download?

Final question, will Avia allow me to do this? Do I need another test tone CD?

Okay, final question again. Has anyone had trouble with their Avia disc? Mine seems to be slow loading (really slow) between screens and difficult to navigate through.

Thanks!

I will have to play with that program and see what it can do. By the sound of the AVS thread, a microphone needs to be plugged in to the computer to take readings. I don't have a mic, unless the mic from my onkyo automatic setup would work, other then that it might allow manual input. Or, i could buy a mic. I'll read the instructions tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks!

Room EQ wizard can work with a Radio Shack SPL meter -- the one with the line out jack. Your computer has to have a line input (not mic input) though. It's all in that thread, just take the time to wade through it -- also download the user manual/help files from JohnPM's site.

I'm really busy right now, but will have some time in the coming weeks. My computer does not have a line-in, only a mic-in. It's a laptop. i'll try and borrow a friends computer and get it done in the next week or two. I did start the program and it looks great. I can hardle wait to see how the system measueres and if I can improve the sound.

Thanks for the Info.
