Measured my hearing upper frequency limit with REW

After tweaking the sub location I decided to check where my hearing stood using REW's signal generator. I'm 59 years old going on 60 in August and I'm still in the 5 figure range.. 11500Hz I could still hear but at 12000Hz, it was game over. Mute, deaf, male protective hearing kicking in...call it what you will.

This got me curios. I'm 53 and I can see that I max out between 12000 and 12500 hertz.

Many loudspeakers with dome tweeters can beam quite tightly in dispersion above 10 kHz. If you want to conduct high-frequency listening tests with most home audio speakers, you need to be sure you are on-axis with the tweeter facing your ears.

Same age as me. The flyback transformers on tube televisions operated at around 15.7kHz (had to do with horizontal scanning frequency). That used to be a good test when I was in my 20's. Stopped hearing the TV set whine a long time ago. Too many loud rock concert and bar band performances. Started wearing ear protection while performing on stage and going to live shows but I think the damage was done by then. Some of those early shows left my ears ringing for days afterwards.

I'd have to have this verified, but at 37 I'm at 13kHz

This was an accidental reading since I was only testing my tweeters in my Overnight Sensations build, but I thought "while I'm at it, let's find out how deaf I might be".

Tried with an app on my phone and headphones on. That got me to 13 kHz. Ok with that although my wife who is 6 years older than me could hear almost 14 kHz. A little annoying

That's why you can mumble ship about her and she hears it. Luckily for you all the nagging she transmits is above 14k
