The cord running into the right headphone of my MDR-7506 has become exposed. The connection is likely broken because no sound is produced by the right headphone anymore. I've tried looking for tutorials on how to fix this but the only ones I have found were for headphone jacks and I am not sure if I need to do something special for these more expensive headphones. I tried looking for a Sony repair shop but it seems there is no shop nearby me.

Do I need a lot of equipment to fix this and how should I go about fixing it?

Probably no easy fix for that, and a shop fix (if you could find one) would probably cost more than the ’phones are worth. Despite your feelings, these really aren’t expensive headphones, only $100 new. If I were you I’d just ebay another pair. If you’re patient you can find them used for $50-60.
