Maybe 2 of the stupidist questions.

Maybe a little random, but I have always just assumed I knew what the answers to these question, but I thought I better as to be sure.

1. A 12 volt trigger on a reciever. I would think that it turns on another piece of equipment, like a source or additional amp. Is this right?

2. My older brother runs a Sunfire Theatre Grand 3 in his home. He also has 6 marantz mono-blocks. What is the purpose of having the addtional amps. Would the sunfire itself power the speakers? Is the monoblocks just a added benifit, or is it essential? He is running 4 NHT tower speakers, and a front and rear center, and a 12" velodyne sub.

Thanks for the help,

Chris

1. Yes.

2. If I am not mistaken, the Sunfire you mention is a tuner/preamp combination, and does not have power amplification built in. So some power amplifier or amplifiers are needed. Consult Sunfire's web site for information on it.
