Hello everyone! I just received a MavAudio TubeMagic D1 fresh from China! It took about a week and a half via DHL.
My first impressions are these:
Via USB from PC with Fubar 2000,
This sounds EPICALLY better than my M-Audio DAC! (USB recording interface)
It is almost dead quiet (I could hear a slight bzzzzz from my PC audio before)
The SSS, SHH and T sounds from vocals are much clearer, but not harsh.
I can hear vocalists INHALE between vocals much more now.
Bass is cleaner and tighter.
Symbols have a more "magical" quality (dont know how else to say it)
I can hear jazz sax key noise much more (tapping of the keys on the body of the instrument)
Piano is MUCH more realistic.
Songs that didnt sound good (crap files), suddenly are tolerable if not decent.
So, after my 2 hours of listening to only PC music, i have to say that i would highly recommend this box to anyone looking for an entry level DAC or Preamp! I havent had a chance to audition my AT M-50 cans yet. But i hear the headphone port is excellent, although it is SS.
My only concern:
My right channel is slightly more pronounced. I think this could be due to the fact that i spit the line level on the left channel to run my sub. I will be changing this soon. Plus i hear the unit needs burn-in time.
Anyone else have one of these???
