i've got an HK avr635, and I'm wondering if it would be a bad idea to match it with lsi9's ? all input welcome, thanks !

forgot to mention, i'm looking at getting 6 of the lsi9's, for 6.1, though 50% of the time it would just be the 2 speakers playing music, other half would be movies....... thanks again

polk is a good choice. ur hk should have no porblem driving it. i would recomend looking into the klipsch reference series also. theyre easy to drive and match well with HK. make sure to listen to them first cause pple tend to love or hate klipsch horns.

no opinions ? help please !!!
You have things backwards. Choose the speakers first then pick a receiver that meets your needs. The reciever has little to do with the sound you hear. Go out and audition as many speakers as you can. That is the one and only way to pick speakers that sound good to YOUR ears.

thanks, i appreciate the response, does anyone know if the lsi9's will dip below 4ohms, if there is any chance that the receiver will clip ? i realize there are many speaker receiver combinations, just wondering if anyone has first hand experience with either of these 2 components and might be able to shed some light on my situation.

i love the sound of the speakers... but i already have the receiver, so i'm hoping that the speakers will not be too much for my receiver

Update !!

just an update for anyone looking at a combination like this..... 8 ohm receiver (high current) with 6 4ohm speakers..... no clipping to be spoken of, even before setting the crossover to 80 no clipping

That does not surprise me. Harman makes nice receivers. Watch the heat level on your receiver. It will probably get much warmer running 4 ohm speakers. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation. Wait unitl you open up the amp a bit with a big movie. Then you will have a better idea how the Haraman holds up. Most decent receivers will drive 4 ohm speakers ok but tend to get compressed at high volumes.

I love your set up but I would consider a bigger external amp to drive the Polks. They tend to like beefy amps. Just a thought for the future.

Cheers,
Glenn
