can't believe there's no thread on this one ...

here are my thoughts/opinions:
what a horrible movie. I had to watch it in 4 parts just to finish it because I was dozing off every now and then. incredibly dragging. its a boat fight movie ... wheres the master and commander ... its not even monumental. no drama. 10 fingers down.

you know the DTS demo? that was 1 of 2 only good parts.

Yeah I'm glad I haven't seen all of this. Demo disk is all I need.

I'd have to agree with both of you, it was a very boring movie but i love the battle scenes for demoing my system. They are involve every aspect of a system.

I liked it, but it does drag on a bit. I picked it up for $10, so no complaints :) Too long for what it is trying to achieve; I wouldn't give it a thumbs down though.

The demo disc chops off about 1-2 minutes of the battle, and there's some good stuff in the part that is missing.

I liked it. It didn't set any speed records for moving along, but I didn't find it painful either. I think it was well acted and had a good story, too. Basically, it was a two month(?) chase scene on the high seas where they didn't have much to do when they weren't near each other. I think it was supposed to move slow to show this.

I watched it with two different girls and they both liked it. I'm not sure if that is good or bad, though. Too many people seem to get used to watching 'non-stop adrenaline rush movies that will keep you on the edge of your seat' and have trouble with a movie that is based upon good acting instead of lots of action. I'd give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

I liked it quite a bit. Have watched it several times in fact. The story and characters were very well done and the action scenes were great.

Its one of my top 10 favorite movies. And the DTS track is incredible.

I'd say it's one of the finest films of recent years. The cinematography was fantastic, the music was wonderful and the sound is amazing. I thought the writing was top-notch and the acting superb. What seems long to some is welcome character developement to me. To each his own, I guess.

I use the battle scenes as a WOW demo for friends.

Thanks. That is a great way of saying it. I enjoyed it a lot and may have to rent it again:) or just buy it.

i bought my master and commander at borders for 10bucks, it is very much worth it for showing off a system, but I was talking about the lack of "greatness" that I saw in gladiator

I thought it was a great movie, but it might not be everybody's cup of tea: one of my friends couldn't get through more than 25 minutes of LotR Fellowship before he started mumbling "look, there's a creek-throw it in and let's end this thing!". I think he has AADD, though...he's more of a "Halo" kinda guy than "Splinter Cell", if you know what I mean.

Bryan...great DTS soundtrack, too...

I ended up buying it for $15 new. I love the sound during the battle scenes. And the creaking of the wood during the opening scene was cool too.

I've seen worse. Can't complain about this one.

Cheers.

LOVED this film. It is one of the best sounding (DTS Track) DVD's I own but actually, I like everything about this film. That and Open Range were my fav 2003 films in a pretty good movie year.
