Integra dtr 7.8, connected lfe to sub doesn't seem to have a lot of depth (just one input used). If I throw a y and utilize both inputs it's more, id say, dynamic. Question would be, will this impact the lfe signals for movies? Or just another trial and error? Just seems odd that logan says to use only lfe (for movies) but I seem to be loosing a lot of dynamics that way. I'm really impressed with the sub overall and using it in a 14x14 room.

No, you don't need to use a Y adapter, that will not affect the sound at all. I have the same sub and I use it as recommended, no loss of dynamics at all. There must be some other reason in your set up that you feel you are lacking dynamics.

It's an entry level 8" sub.. A one note wonder if I've ever heard one.
Yes, I do own one.
Cheers, Mac

I don't think he was asking for your opinion on the sub. Anyway, one note has more to do with set up than the sub itself. You can purchase a $4,000 JL F113 and it can sound like a one note wonder box.

Really? I completely disagree- it's a 99.00 ( price I payed on Amazon ) piece of hardware that performs as such.
I had an Emotiva Ultra 10 in the exact in the same position prior to the 300 and have since returned it to duty in the same placement. Sounds great.
I stand by my comments on the Dynamo 300.
Cheers, Mac

You can disagree all you want. What I said is a fact. The room have more to do with the bass response than the sub. You can have an expensive if its not set up right it can and will sound boomy.

What are room modes and how do they impact sound quality?
Some unavoidable facts:

  • ALL rooms have naturally occurring resonance frequencies called room modes or standing waves. If you read around the web you’ll find some more esoteric terms like eigentones or eigenmodes. I quite like calling them modal resonances.
  • Room modes are the main cause of acoustic distortion below the transition frequency, causing peaks and dips in the frequency response of 20dB or more.
  • Modal resonances store energy and decay slowly compared to nearby frequencies causing audible problems such as ‘one note bass’ and ‘boominess’.
  • NEARLY ALL systems, even those with extremely high end equipment, suffer from the negative impact of modal resonances.
If are unhappy with the performance of your home theater, listening room or recording studio in the bass and lower midrange frequencies then it is highly likely that the problem is related to the negative impact of modal resonances. You will need to learn a little about the science behind room modes to understand how to reduce or remove their impact on sound quality

Short question, why am I getting more volume when using a y-cable vs using only the lfe. (Nothing else is changed) without the y it barely seems to do anything. With the y it's alive and well.

This wasn't a question about the subs ability to perform. I purchased it for a small family room setup. Question was related to why I am getting more volume utilizing a y at the back of the sub.

Sorry about that, you're absolutely right.
As for the Y cord issue, I've tried it both ways and I've never noticed a difference.

Fact is:
Two different subwoofers in the same position in the same room (at different times) do not change modal response. Neither sub has PEQ.
The Emotiva is simply a better sub and not a particularly good one at that. Just better enough.
I'm out.

That's not what I'm trying to tell you. That same Emotiva sub you're bragging on, another person can have that same sub and complain about boomy (one note), muddy and sloppy bass. You seem to think the price of a sub determines if its going to sound boomy or not. What I'm trying to get you to understand is that $100 and 2,000 sub can boomy or not depending upon how its set up.
