Martin Logan Abyss vs SVS PB12-Plus/2

Ok friends it's time for another sub this one is for my basement system. This set up is apx 3 yrs old.
Wharfedale Diamond 8.4 Fronts
Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 Sides & Rear
Wharfedale Sub Power Cube 12A
Sony STR 5000ES
Sony DVD NC555ES 5 Disc
Pioneer Elite 910HD
Monster Power HTS 3600
Wharfedale Diamond 8 Center

My Wharfedale Power Cube is weak, needs to be replaced. My basement is apx 15'ft wide 20'ft deep. I really use this system for TV & Movies 90% of the time.

In my bedroom system I just got a Martin Logan Dynamo and I must admit I really like this sub....very tight bass for a small room. I'd say that's why I'm looking at the Abyss, 12' sub sealed box 300 watts and under 800.

The sound of the sub for me has to be tight not boom. The SVS has more power 900 watts dual 12.3 woofers, its a big sub.

Just looking for some input.

Well this is kind of tough as they are both good but....

I really have to say that if you have the money (and room) the SVS would be the way to go for sheer output especially in that size of a room . The Abyss is impressive (I have a Dynamo in my bedroom as well and love it as well) but you have a larger sized room and the dual 12"s will fill the room easier. Now I am sure either would be acceptable to you but the SVS would do a better job for this sized room. Regarding the "tightness" issue I guess one of the SVS owners will have to chime in on this as I am unsure of the answer on that, other than to say I know the ML will be tight. Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

Those are two different animals. The Martin Logan is probably more comparable to the SB12 than the Plus/2. The Plus/2 is a monster made for high output. It's also the size of an end table. On the plus side, it comes in more than one finish than black, and will have more than enough headroom for your basement.

If it's within your budget and you have the space, my choice would be plus/2. If you want something smaller, nothing wrong with going with what you already have and like. You may want to consider the SB12 too, given it's a closer match to what you're considering (sealed, smaller, 425W). The plus/2 will fill the space better though.

Also worth noting, the price of the plus/2 goes up $100 on Jan 2. So take your time and decide quickly

Uhm, you just made a subwoofer...

It's SB-12plus, and PB-12Plus/2. Theres no SB12-plus/2.... I wish there was.

So which did you order? The dual driver, or sealed?

I ordered mine and got it 2 days later, not sure where you live, but Im just north of milwaukee, and they are in Ohio... so not too far to go..

Also I ordered mine at midnight, when I was drunk... Still no regrets...

I used the High Density foam for Isolation, from the floor... much like this..

Same here, with the two i ordered, one was here in 2 days, one in 3. The one that took 3 days was ordered on Christmas I'm in eastern PA.

Nice, clean set up. Putting the sub on the foam is good idea. I think will I return the gramma thing to save $50 and use foam like you did.

I have the next few days off, and I have been playing some great DVD's with LFE.. Fantastic...
The Foam is great, just sticks out like a sore thumb (White), gotta trim that back and clean it up some... Just getting started with a full blown update from the ground up, and I figured Id take advantage of the savings on the Plus/2 before prices went up. Im so happy I did.. Much more then I thought it would be but its such a beautiful piece of equipment... I know HSU has some nice products out there for the price, but its the wood finishes that sold me on the SVS !!! Simply beautiful to look at.. Oh and it sounds - well awe inspiring, coming from what I had before... Can't wait to get the rest of the stuff...

BTW... Three Olives Cherry Vodka Press.. or Effen Black Cherry Press, or My World Renowned Chocolate Martini, affectionately reffered to as the "Leg Spreader"...
