We saw this tonight and it's quite good. It's a fictionalized story of the Lehman Brothers crash in 2008. Problems have already started, a layoff is happening and on his way out the door, a risk analyst (Stanley Tucci) gives a flash drive to an underling, a superbright guy who realizes that the files on the drive document that the bank is overextended and about to collapse. The current troubles are only a hint at what is to come. The story happens over a span of about 24 hours. Kevin Spacey is a higher boss who finds himself in the middle of a banking disaster and realizes that his whole life and career is about to unravel.

This movie is like a better version of one of those movies where somebody is decoding the Mayan Apocalypse or forecasting a category 10 hurricane. It's tense, lo-FX, well acted and full of portent that once we understand what's happening we will realize that something awful is about to happen. The cast is excellent and also includes Simon Baker, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons and others. I guess it's the first "horror" movie about accounting.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago.

Seemed to be more of a character study, and less of a low-key thriller.

I found it enjoyable, if not memorable.
