Hi all, new member here with a question about a possible solution to my volume problem. It is a unique problem I think, when I use my maranz remote I can only increase the volume but I cannot lower it. I bought a new universal remote and tried it still having the same problem.Every other remote function works fine... Does anyone have a clue as to what i need to do to fix this annoying problem? The volume works fine when used manually
on the unit itself. Thanks for your time...

Welcome to the forum!

Quick question - did you use the old remote to program the new remote? If so, sometimes one or more buttons on a remote will stop working because of the contacts being worn out on the circuit board inside, and if the decrease volume button is like that, it wouldn't work when teaching a new learning remote. If you got a true universal remote that had that function pre-programmed into it, then it's got to be an issue inside of the receiver.

Also, did that function work in the past at any time? I'm wondering if the firmware of the receiver got messed up at some point. You could try a reset of the receiver and see if that works. The procedure to reset the receiver is on page 82 of the owner's manual (which you can download directly from Marantz in PDF form at the link here).

Hi Adam thanks for the welcome, and for the quick reply, really appreciate it. The old remote worked fine for a few years but gradually deteriorated and I had to push harder and harder each time to get it to lower the volume. Now it does not lower the volume at all. At some point before it stopped it only worked when I got it very close to the unit. I also programmed the new remote with a code, and not by the learning method. So it could be the unit having the problem. I will try to reset the unit and see what happens...I will let you know, again thanks a lot!!!

Darn! That would have been an easy fix. :) Sorry that didn't help.

Does anyone else here have any ideas? The only other thing that I can think of at the moment is to clean off the IR sensor on the front of Marantz (yeah, I try the simple things first :D).

No luck with that either, unfortunately. I was thinking though: is there any way to update the firmware? It does have a USB input.
I appreciate your help; I will also look for an answer online.

Actually, I do have an idea. Should be an easy fix.

Do you have the RX101 that was supplied with your unit?

Great. If you are using the RX101 unplug it and point your remote directly at the unit. If you are not using the RX101 it sounds like the IR unit on your Marantz is starting to go. You should be able to bypass it completely by using the RX101. Simply plug in the RX101, set the "IR" switch to "on" and try the volume.

Great, are you currently using the RX101?
Maybe go with "If you're using it, then [blank]. If not, then [blank]." Based on it being 12 hours since your first question, this Q&A could take a while. :p

Just a thought. :)

I just created another problem last night. I removed the volume button on the remote thinking maybe there was dust underneath it...I cleaned it with compressed air spray..and now I can't put it back, it will not stay in place, and of course the volume on the remote does not work at all now...But I still have the universal remote, and I will try to do what Monk said...If that does not work I will try to find a new Marantz remote... I could not find any sites that sell them, if anyone knows of where I can get one, please let me know. Again thanks.
