Just curious if anyone has any experience with the Marantz SR8500. I have a installer recommending it to me. I really like the specs on it (mainly the DVI switching). I have been looking at the Yamaha RX-V2500 & Denon 3805, but if the Marantz is atleast as nice plus the DVI switching I think I would rather go with it.

I've been reading alot of the post here for quite some time and it seems everyone here is very intelligent. But I havent seen much on Marantz product and was curious of others opinions and it this is a receiver that might get a staff review sometime:) ?

Looks Ok from the specs

While I don't have any MARANTZ equipment, I checked out the link and it looks very comparable to the Denon 3805 and Yammie 2500. The only "advantages" (on paper anyway) is the digital video switching, which is the DVI connector type and I like the torroidal transformer.

Only problem with it is, like any early technology, is what happens if the industry decides that a different digital video connector is more common/better. You may have a BETA VCR on your hands.

Question is, do you roll the dice or not? Worst case scenario, you have a decent receiver with some not so popular connectors. It's still a decent (on paper) unit.

Like Crashguy mentioned watch out for the tech trap. DVI has already been surpassed by HDMI and I wouldn't make a decision based on DVI switching. Many new flagship receivers are coming out with HDMI switching including the new Denon 5805, which is a lot more expensive than the Marantz you are looking at.
