I listened to both and they both sound great. I think that the Marantz has more power. I'll be getting Paradigm Studio 60 front L/R, 40 rear L/R cc-570 center Seismic 12 SUB. Listen to 70% movie 30% music.

What do you think? Which would sound better with the Paradigm?

Is there anyone out there with an suggestion on which receiver would be better?

I guess I will have to go with the Marantz SR-8500. Unless there is any Poineer 74 fans that can change my mind.

Any help will be nice.

The 74TXVi seems to be a replacement for the 54TX, and not the 56TXi. There's no detachable cord, no double-layer copper chassis, and the 56's gold plated jacks are gone as well.

In terms of connection options, the Pioneer absolutely trounces the Marantz. 1394, HDMI, XM, and iPOD, the Marantz has none of that. Also, the 74 has the latest gen MCACC, which is WAAAY better than Marantz's "MRAC", which seems to be an after thought.

The Marantz definitely outpowers the Pioneer though. If the Pioneer's somewhat limited amplifiers dont bother you, I think its the better way to go. DVI switching is basically useless at this point.

Based on listening to previous Pioneers at this level, if you are looking for sonic quality, the 8500 is a no brainer. If you're looking for more features, then the Marantz may not be your best bet.
