Marantz SR8400 setup questions

Hi Guys,

I fianlly set my SR8400 up last night and did read the manual (maybe I fell asleep during these parts :) ). I have 3
problems/questions so far. I am sure there will be more to come.

1. I have the surround mode set to auto detect, but it does not seem to do it.
The example I used was a Harry Potter DVD. It works fine when set manually
to PLII or whatever. Why is this?
What am I doing wrong?

2. I hooked up a digital coax cable from my PRISMIQ media player to input
#5. I would like to call it Aux 1 or similar, but that is not an option under the on
screen menu. Do I have to call it something else?

3. The display on the right side of the unit's front screen displays 2 speakers,
the front left and front right, but I have a 5.1 config and all are
connected and work. Why is that?

Otherwise, it sounds pretty smooth and I don't even have it calibrated right. My friend is bringing over his laptop with a bunch of microphones and spectrum analyzer to help me set it up.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I have not owned any Marantz A/V so I couldn't specifically walk you through all of your problems. I believe you can fix them easily as long as you have enough patient to read the manual.

First, seems like you have a 5.1 set up which can only work with certain surround modes.
Secondly, once you master out the configuration menu/setup, you would be amazed of your receiver's capabilities.

One thing I noticed that most recent A/V receivers are not plug and play type any more due to its complex and advance features. So you need to spare some time with it.
Good luck

I agree. My yamaha pro-logic was "plug and play" as you say. These new receivers often sound like crap right out of the box until you set them up. I agree, I need some time to play with it a bit. Now I just have to get my small daughters and wife to give me that time :D

Thanks,

Pat
