Marantz SR8400 - DTS-ES

I noticed that when watching LOTR in DTS-ES 6.1 mode, the voices of the actors can drop down to a whisper at times making it hard to hear them. But the volume is still up to room shaking levels when there is an action scene. Is this caused by the sound mix on the DVD? I can not seem to find a control to turn up the volume on this center channel when in DTS mode.

Anyone know a solution?

Marantz controls the levels globally, so there isn't a way to set it separate. I normally calibrate and adjust the center about +1dB to get good dialogue via the center.

I don't. I have noticed this same thing with my yammie. It is only on a few of my movies, but it is irritating to say the least.

Since every movie is mixed differently, there is no 100% cure for this.

There is no true cure for it but using dynamic range compression can help (only works on DD though). The peaks are reduced so the loud parts aren't quite so loud but the average level is raised so dialog is often easier to hear.
