Here's a brand spankin' new unit out of the blue. Anyone see this coming?
I can say this - no HDMI connection, or THX certification. I would think this would put a major "halt" on moving out the SR7500 and SR8500 units - thinking the SR7600 and SR8600 models are soon to come.

That is really wierd. All I can say is way to go Marantz. Launch that product that supports unavailable formats before anyone knows what they are. I'm sure this won't antagonize the owners who bought the brand new 8500's for $1500 that won't support features that the entry level (one above entry) model will do.

Oh well, I guess that it's inevitable that the new formats would make it out sooner or later. Better to be proactive then reactive and all that jargon.

By the end of the year we should see most of the new models coming out. The replacement for the 8500 probably won't come until early next year though. Not really out of the blue, they are on a 12 month cycle like everyone else and the lower models tend to come out about Sep-Oct. timeframe from them, so this guy is a little early. 5500 was the first of the x500 line to be released, and the 8500 was the last.

What is the 8th amplifier channel for? 8.1? It says 7 discreet amps in the description but also says 90 watts x 8. I am confused. Also, does anybody know anything about these new formats?

I think the "Rs" in there are supposed to be the little Registered Trademark Rs, not an actual "R". The only new formats I'm aware of are DD+ and some new version of DTS, which are backwards compatible, and neither are "R", and neither are mentioned in the users manual.

The 90x8 is also a typo (common for early Marantz info); the user's manual lists it as 90x7 and it only has 7 channels of output.

Nice snag Garcia. You're 100% right about the R. Man is that obvious in hindsight. Apparantly I have to spread some reputation around before I give you any more, but still nice catch on the errors. I think that the 8 channels must be a typo as well. Thanks again.

Having owned many marantz and yamaha amps. I can say with confidence that the yamaha will be better for movies and the marantz for music. I usually end up with marantz as the music on the yamahas are just off enough for me to not care for music through it at all.
If your all ht go yamaha, music go marantz .
