You may not know, but Swerd lets all know that in 2002 D&M group took ownership of both brands. Denon and Marantz are owned by the same parent company. There's a pretty safe bet that if D&M took $1000 in parts and built the Marantz receiver that if you looked inside the Denon the same $1000 worth of parts would be sitting in there. Or pretty close.
IMHO you are choosing between two very fine options, not between a good and a poor one.
Find the features you'd like to have on your AVR (number of HDMI's, power ratings, number of buttons) and focus on those. When you have a list, choose the AVR that has that group of features at a price that makes you smile. It would also help boost your confidence in the purchase if you could listen to it before you purchased it. Being able to listen to something before you buy it is the best way to make choices.
