Marantz SR18 dislay lights don't work

I recently bought a used 1999, Marantz sr-18 receiver, sounds great & all functions work except, the display lights will randomly come on and off while in operation, on/off durations varies,

The only light that remains on is the green led light for the function indicator, cd, dvd etc. When there are no display lights, I would press the display off button, green indicator light goes off, press again, green led comes back on as it should.

I have noticed this issue right away after plugging it in for the first time, purchased it in: June 2012. Went through the included manual & OSD setup.

Previous original owner of this receiver gave no mention of this, and said she did not notice it because it was rarely used being it was set up in a basement rumpus room which was not used much?

Thanks

I have a similar issue with my 8300. Guessing the board that controls the lighting on yours is dying. On mine, all the LED indicators work fine, but the fluorescent display flickers randomly. It will go dim, then off then back on. Probably not worth repairing IMO, as the repair will likely cost as much or more than the receiver, so just keep using the OSD and make sure you get used to your remote functions for using it. I've had mine so long, I can practically work my way through the setup menus without the display :)

I had a Onkyo lose the display lights and it was a cheep resistor that went bad. If it was mine I would just use the remote likej_garcia posted and enjoy the music. Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks, my display lights haven't come on for a couple of days now. Is there a VGA to 3 RCA y cb cr cable available for the OSD? I haven’t been able to find one yet. The cable is needed to plug into my Marantz monitor out (y cb cr) jacks to a pc monitor. My Curtis Mathes TV doesn’t support this cable nor svideo, hdmi, etc.

I’m not yet very familiar with the receiver’s menu enough to get by, w/o the display. I’m sure in time I will.
