Marantz SR-7500 Vs. Yahama 2500 Purchase Help

Looking at both of these units to purchase. They are priced nearly the same locally (within $200). I have research both units and was jsut wondering if anyone had any experience with either/both of these units and what the pro's and con's of each one might be.

Of course the sales guy for 7500 said Marantz is a high-end unit, but then, so did the Yamaha guy. I do know Marantz is a very well respected company with great products.

This will be used for music/video. Also looking at Paradigm, Axiom and monitor audio's for speakers. my guess is whichever receiver i get will be powing one of these brands of speakers. Just have to figure out which ones now!

Ask the Marantz guy if the 8400 is a better unit than the 7500. You can get the 8400 at www.ubid.com right now for a song and a dance. Check out the number of bids on it. That would be my suggestion of the three unless there are options you need on the newer models the 8400 doesn't have.

They are both truly good units, each having its own pros and cons, if you like DSP and watch lots of movies, then Yamaha has the edge, otherwise evenly matched.

Ok here is another question then.....

I went to the following:
Marantz dealer (SR-7500 - rated at 105W)
Yamaha dealer (rx-v2500 - rated at 130w)
Intergra Dealer (6.3 - 100w)

Both the Marantz and integra dealers said that for each of the models i was looking at, the wattage (while lower) would actually out perform the mass-marketed receivers (such as the Yamaha), would sound cleaner, louder and in the end have more power. Of course these are sales guys and they say that while the Yamaha will put out maybe 35-55 watts, the other 2 brands are more conservitative. Then they get into size of power supplies, heat sinks, etc. Truth is looking into the top of all units, they look, feel and weigh about the same. ..

Any truth to all of this?

Sounds like your typical salesmen talking at you. You won't hear any difference in power between those three receivers. I think there was a less than stellar review on an Integra receiver right here at Audioholics. Check out the home page for professional reviews under receivers/amps. Did you ask the Marantz guy about the 8400 vs the 7500? I'm sure he'd say the newer technology is your best bet, since he won't get his commission by pushing you towards last years model.

Not even a choice

Does this statement not answer your query? Why would you buy a Yamaha when you can buy a product that is made by Marantz for the same price? Look at their lineup, they know how to make this equipment.

The wattage is an average and the Marantz salesman is right on. The Marantz is going to provide better sound than the others. That is what you want. Power is strictly to push your speakers and really how difficult are those speakers?

The other companies can not provide quality so they sell you on statistics. You can buy a $4000 Marantz that is respected. They know what they are doing. So the choice is quality or tinny but you can say the wattage is higher to your friends.

And newer and older are dependant on what you hear. If someone tells you there is no audible differance, they may be correct, or technology is improved. Listen to the two models of Marantz and decide.

There are some very good and some very bad salespeople. One thing you know for sure, reviews in most magazines and websites come with advertising purchases.

BS. Plain and simple.
Marantz is going to provide better sound? To whom?
They know what they are doing? Most do.

I can respect the fact that you prefer Marantz, but to come in and tell other people seeking advice that Marantz is the god of the audio world is plain BS. Marantz, Yamaha, Denon, NAD, Pioneer Elite, H/K, Onkyo/Integra, and several others make superb receivers. It's about what features you need, which remote you like, and which one is the best deal at the moment.
