The 8001 is the new model. I have the older sr7500 and the sound is fantastic. I recently had to have a little work done on it and have been substituting a pioneer reciver in its place. Its quite a nice little unit with all the bells and whistles, but for music, the marantz is just in a different class (price range too). I'm pretty sure you will be quite happy with it.
