Hey all

As I mentioned in a another post work has made me realize what good audio can sound like, and I've decided it's time to buy something. I've narrowed down my speaker choice to either the Kef LS50 or Kef R300- but that's a post for another topic.

Looking at amps I've settled on one of the Marantz integrated amps and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the built-in DAC in the 6005. My initial thought was to get a 5005 and pair it with a Peachtree DAC-iT X, but if the 6005 works well it would save me a few bucks.

Thoughts?

If you can get 6005 cheaper I would go with that as 6005 is supposed to cost more than 5005. If 5005 is cheaper tho and it has all the connections you need I would settle with that. Have you auditioned those amps with your chosen speakers? I would do that before purchase as well so you know what you are buying.

The Sabre DAC chip in the Peachtree is a more refined performer than the Cirrus CS4398 in the Marantz, and if you are considering speakers in the LS50-class, that's a speaker choice that is certainly capable of revealing sonic differences in the front end, so I would not consider the two options equivalent. As always, let your budget be your guide.
