Crutchfield has the Marantz 6003 for $699 and the 5003 for $584.

I have a large room (28' long, 18' wide) so was leaning towards the little extra power in the 6003. I only need 1 HDMI output although this one has 2.

Is this a good deal, I should I pony up the extra cash for the 5004 or 6004?

The crutchfield guy said i would get more bang for the buck with the Onkyo 707...any thoughts on this as well?

Thanks

The 6003 should be fine for your needs. Did you decide on speakers?

Crutchfield doesn't have good prices. Most the time they are close to full retail. If you find a model and brand you like, Google for the best price. However, the prices you quoted above seem fairly compitative.

Remember power is logrithmic there is really not that much difference between 90 and 110 watts per channel. LdB= 10 log1o (P1/P0) = ldB =10 log 10(110/90) = 0.87 dB gain

What speakers are your driving ? Is the nominal impedance 4 ohms or 8 ohms ? 4 ohms takes twice as much power. The efficiency of speakers is very important low efficiency (80 dB) takes a low more power than average efficiency (88-90 dB). High efficiency ( also known as sensitiviy ) of 100 dB can run speakers loud at low power.

If you are not sure of your power requirements then get a AVR with pre-outs. Then you can always add an external ampliflier later.

I like Marantz they are good solid AVRs.

The 6003 (100 WATTS) has pre-outs so you could later add an external amp the 5003 does not. So I probably would not get the 5003 unless your speakers have fairly high efficiency.

What does the 6004 add ?

110 watts instead of 100
4HDMI in instead of 3
RX101 Bluetooth/IR receiver
Better Audyssey set-up Dynamic EQ & vol
GUI through HDMI out --nicer to set-up ;)
Bi-amp front L/R capable.

Best 6004 price right now about $699 --same as your 6003 price --no brainer

The 5003 does have pre-outs. I just confirmed it on the Marantz website, plus I also just bought one a couple of weeks ago. I haven't hooked it up to my amp yet but did run some a pair of speakers off the regular speaker terminals. Was a nice step up from my three year old Pioneer. I did make certain it had pre-outs though because it was one requirement when looking for a new receiver. With that said, I have no idea how it compares to the 5004/6004. I did do a comparison to the 6003 when I bought mine and couldn't see enough difference to justify the extra $150. I can't cite any specifics though other than the 6003 has a slight boost in power, two HDMI outs (although only one can be active video at a time) and a nice clean face. As suggested by Forest Man I would look beyond Crutchfield. I found mine for a little less than what you were quoting - including shipping.

Good luck,

Matt

I believe the newer Marantz receivers offer a prettier GUI and they've added Audyssey Dynamic Volume. If those features matter to you, then get the xx04. If not, get the xx03.
