I'm beginning to wonder if it's the AppleTV causing these issues with HDMI. Once I moved from an Apple TV HD to an Apple TV 4K (though only outputting 1080p/60), problems have occurred.
The exact symptoms were that my receiver (Pioneer SC-91), would lose the following functionality:
- Setup menu would not be output at all.
- iOS remote app and Mac using a browser to directly connect to the receiver's IP address failed to connect at all. I'm using wired Ethernet.
- Accessing setting functions directly on the receiver displayed "unavailable" on the receiver's display.
In addition, my display (Pioneer Kuro PRO-141FD) would rapidly cycle between three types of output (colored noise, a blue-tinted screen of the Apple TV's output, and no picture at all).
I had to unplug the receiver and leave off for a while (30 minutes, though maybe that could be a lesser time). Then all things worked again.
However, the problem came up again. Then, I moved the Apple TV 4K to use the receiver's HDMI 1 through 3 inputs (which support HDCP 2.2 and higher bandwidth). Previously, it was connected to inupt 6. So far, the problem has not returned.
I have no idea if the Cinema 50 has equal specs on all its HDMI inputs. But you may want to try using a different input to see if that makes a difference.
I've filed a bug with Apple regarding this issue just in case it truly is their problem.
