Hi,

Hello to everyone - I am just a beginner in this field so I beg you to be very simple with me - I just bought a MARANTZ AV Surround receiver SR5003 and together with it I got also a set of 5.1 speakers (BOSE) and I tried to connect them at the back to the speaker output terminals - so at the back of the receiver there are 9 rounded knobs where one can connect the 5.1 surround speakers - the colors are (taking always the top row) from left to right: red, white, red, white, grey, blue, green, light brown and dark brown - now I connected my wires thus: on first and 2nd buttons the left and right front speakers - then the centre speaker on the green button and the last two speakers, i.e. the right and left rear speakers on the last two knobs which are the light brown and brown buttons. Apart from this I have not touched anything except that I connected from my computers sound card a fibre optic wire from the fibre optic outlet of the sound card on my computer to the AUX1 on the Surround receiver. But the thing is now that when I try the speakers from my computer, I have sort of a room with speakers and then I hit play and the sounds come out from the various speakers - but when I do so I get only two speakers working which are the left and right front speakers. I must be doing something wrong - can someone help me?

I will be much obliged and look forward to hearing from you - otherwise with only these two speakers I can say that the sound is great - now imagine of the complete set starts working - so this is why I need your help - you will make a man very happy!

Best Regards

Welcome to the forum, Eugenio! Congratulations on your new equipment.

First thing that I'd like to mention is that your surround speakers should be connected to the "SURROUND" speaker terminals (grey and blue) and not the "SURROUND BACK" speaker terminals (light brown and brown). The surround back channels are used if you have a 7.1 speaker system.

There are a couple of things that come to mind for why you would only be getting sound from the front two speakers when you play audio from your computer:
1. You have selected the stereo mode on your receiver
2. Your computer is only outputting stereo (two-channel) audio

If you have questions about how to go about checking and/or changing those settings, just let us know.

Hi Adam,

now I've changed the wiring as you told me and it seems that the Auto Setup from the Surround Receiver is working - now I will try to sound from the computer and let you know - the setting on the computer from the control Panel are 5.1 surround speakers - but now I'll try and come back to you!

Meanwhile heartily thanks!

Hi Adam,

me again - now I managed to Auto Setup the Surround Receiver and the speakers from the receiver seem to be in order - but still when I test the speakers from the computer I get only two front speakers - now the Receiver is on the M-CH MOVIE setting so, I think, it should give surround sound, or rather speakers - the setting from control Panel of the computer Sounds and Devices is 5.1 surround speakers - so I do not know why the speakers are not working when I am trying the sound!

Best Regards

Are you sure that you are playing something that is in surround sound from your computer? Perhaps you could run the speaker set-up on the computer (mine will cycle sound through all of the speakers) to check. Also, if you are playing a DVD (or DVD files), there are often multiple audio tracks - be sure to select one with 5.1 audio.

Also, try cycling through the listening modes on the Marantz. I apologize that I don't have time at the moment to look through the manual to check on that particular sound mode, but just switching between them might help you troubleshoot it. Just be sure that you are playing something that is in 5.1 surround sound.

Hello Adam,

no problem - important thing now is that Surround receiver seems to be working - and once that is working there remains only a small problem now - that of setting my computer! So I would like to thank You really from the bottom of my heart - and yes, when you told me congratulations - truly Marantz is wonderful equipment - I've had different speakers and systems before but nothing competes to the sound of Marantz equipment, even though I did not have it fully running - Once again many thanks.
