Hello Guys

I am about to pull the trigger on this one and will connect to Amp from Sherbourn 7/2100A. Let me know your thoughts about the Pre/Pro.

Thanks

I wish it had more than a single sub-out. Other than that: looks like a great unit.

That shouldn't be of concern since sub-out is a preout connection you can y-wire to multiple subs using a connector like this RCA Plug/2 RCA cable 6 inches $0.55

Marantz is a great brand I have a 30+ year old 1060 Amp that keeps on cranking and more recently a SR8002 AVR.

OP --great choice AV8003

I have an AV8003 and it has superb sound quality. You should not expect much from its video processing feature though. Also keep in mind that it cannot apply Audyssey and decode Dolby True-HD or DTS-HD Master Audio, but if your source will decode those to LPCM then it will apply Audyssey.

Hello Josuah

Thanks for the response. Do you mean for Audyssey to be applied I have to run separate cable from source to Receiver to decode high def codecs?

Thanks

No, the BD player decodes then is sent via LPCM over HDMI to the 8003 where then Audyssey can be used. The 8003 doesn't have enough processing power to do the hi-def decoding AND also run Audyssey.

It also only has global bass management.

This means my old Panny will not be able to do this. I may have to buy either Oppo or PS3 to do this. I have no other option though. I don't game but still PS3 may end up being cheaper than Oppo.

What's you guys take on that?

Cheers

Thanks again you all for good information.

This makes me wonder about the lack of processing power. How about Onkyo PR-Sc886. This seems to be way less than Marantz and is it a better Pre/Pro than AV8003.

I used SR7500 Marantz Receiver to do the Pre/Pro job untill now.

Cheers

Onkyo is the lower-end brand of Integra. If you just went by the brand target, Marantz's AV8003 would be comparable to an Integra processor, rather than an Onkyo.

I considered the Integra when I was shopping around, but decided upon the Marantz based on what I'd read online in terms of sound quality. But I never got a chance to hear the Integra so my opinion between the two isn't worth a whole lot.

Thanks again

Thanks. I guess will go with Marantz and use PS3 or Oppo as my Blu Ray Player. If I can get the Oppo then even my dedicated CD player can be taken off the rack. Thanks guys.

One more question for you folks

How good is the Denon DBP-2010CI Blu Ray Player?

Thanks

For the price, the Oppo is one of the best players out there, thrilled that I bought one, and couldn't be happier - fast and plays tons and tons of different formats, very hard to beat.

My buddy has the PS3, and its a very good player, but he's still going to get a Oppo after messing with mine.

A few things:
Do you need playback of DVD-A or SACD? Oppo has both, Denon does not.

Do you need an RS-232 port? Standard on Denon, extra on Oppo

Do you need wireless ethernet? Oppo has an add-on, Denon is not capable.

You also want to consider load times, and customer support. Disc encoding is constantly being updated. Oppo has been ahead of the curve with their firmware updates. Other manufacturers tend to take their time in providing solutions to firmware issues.
