The new AV7706 AV pre-amplifier features the latest surround sound audio formats, 8K compatibility, 11.2 channels and plenty of connectivity.

The promise behind Marantz’s latest AV surround pre-amplifier is one of fulfilling the role of the “ultimate foundation” for music and movies in the home entertainment environment. Featuring 11.2 channel XLR and RCA pre-outs, the AV7706 functions as an AV processor and analogue preamplifier and will provide the bedrock of an AV system when combined with amplification such as Marantz’s own MM8077, MM7055 and MM7025 models.

The dedicated pre-amplifier board features Marantz’s proprietary Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module (HDAM) technology which provides an ultra fast slew rate (i.e the change of voltage or current per unit time) which helps ensure optimal channel separation, minimum crosstalk and enhanced signal-to-noise ratio for precise detail resolution and stereo imaging. The analogue preamp stage is also fed from a separate power supply to minimise interference. Additionally, ELNA capacitors together with other selected components in the analogue and digital section ensure fast and clean power and dynamic ability for traditional physical sources, like turntables and CD players as well as any digital media. The HDAM provision extends to the Phono EQ stage too where the musical performance benefits from the high-speed signal handling.

Moreover, for the highest possible fidelity and lowest distortion, the AV7706 uses reference-class 32-bit AKM D/A converters on all channels to convert the digital signal coming from the two powerful Sharc Griffin Lite DSPs to the analogue domain.

These Sharc Griffin Lite DSPs facilitate the support for a full array of 3D Audio formats available on the AV7706 including Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, DTS:X, DTS Virtual:X, IMAX Enhanced, and Auro-3D processing, all providing full immersion in multi-dimensional audio.

Away from movie audio, the AV7706 offers Marantz’s typically musical audio playback from analogue inputs or streaming services such as Internet Radio, Spotify Connect, Amazon Music HD, TIDAL, Deezer and more with Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 and HEOS Built-in. Hi-Res audio files from user's private libraries up to FLAC192 and DSD5.6 are also catered for.

There’s a wealth of advanced connectivity including eight HDMI inputs and three outputs. One of the HDMI inputs is dedicated to 8K signals and supports 8K/60Hz or 4K/120Hz pass-through capability for compatible TVs or games consoles. The remaining inputs support up to 4K/60Hz and 4:4:4 Pure Colour sub-sampling, Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10, HDR10+, 3D, BT 2020 pass-through and the latest HDCP 2.3 copy protection standard. Moreover, the video processor can also upscale any native video source up to 8K quality for the best all round viewing options.

The gaming experience is elevated with the latest HDMI specifications which reduce lag and tearing and speed up loading, including auto low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR), quick media switching (QMS), and quick frame transport (QFT) support on all inputs. HDMI eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) is available and supports 3D audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X in uncompressed quality directly from the TV source.

Advanced room acoustic optimisation is available using Audyssey MultEQ XT32 software which includes Dynamic Volume, Dynamic EQ, LFC, Sub EQ HT and the optional Audyssey app allows for professional tuning for the most refined performance in any room.

All sensitive audio processing is protected by the stylish aluminium front panel with distinctive Marantz illuminated porthole display.

Does anyone know if HDMI port 7 can also be used for 1080p sources?
