Marantz A/V Receiver vs Amp+CD Player

Hi guys,

My idea is to setup HIFI system for listening mostly from my FLAC/AAC/MP3 Files located on my USB Drive/Computer at the highest quality but at a reasonable price.

And if possible with one single piece of hardware, being able play Blu-ray movies with a HIFI entry level 7.1 speakers

Therefore,
My main goal is a 2.1 HIFI, and eventually in the future to setup a nice Home Theater System for 7.1 channels

So, what would you recommend?

Having a Marantz SR6005/6 which offers Power, Audiphile Sound, USB Access, Networking and also 7.1 Channels for setting up a Home Theater System

Or having a Marantz PM6004 with a CD6004 for a high end 2.1ch HIFI system, and then buy later a separate HIFI entry level A/V receiver?

The speakers would be bookshelf speakers like Polk Lsi9 or Monitor Audio RX2

I dont plan to dig into extensive setups.

Just a nice HIFI system, mostly for music and if possible to have 7.1

Thanks a lot for your support

I run my 2ch rig with a Marantz integrated. That system is used for both music and movies and I think it is a great way to go. IMHO, amplifier wise, you will get more for your money with an integrated than a multichannel receiver of the same price in this case. For "high end" I might skip the Polks though. Do some auditioning if you can.

I also think if you are okay with 2.1, integrated amp may be better for the 4 ohm LSI speakers.

But Maart3n also said he wanted to eventually get into 7.1. I'm in no way arguing, just curious, wouldn't he be better off going with the SR6005/6006 that way he can seamlessly move into 7.1? I know the AVRs aren't rated for 4 ohms, but not too long ago I contacted Marantz about their AVRs and 4 ohm loads and they e-mailed me back saying that even though they aren't rated for 4 ohms they should handle the load just fine. Granted I take that with a grain of salt.

Also I'd like to put my vote in to listen to some totems if you can. I auditioned a few pairs of bookshelf and tower speakers and was really impressed. I liked them better than the some of the polks I've heard, although the model escapes me.

Take a look at the outlaw rr2150 stereo receiver if you want to put together a 2 channel system; it has a more robust amp section than the marantz 6004 but runs around $100 more. It has bass management features which will make it easier go with a 2.1 set up. I did a lot of research when I put together my 2 channel system and decided to get the outlaw stereo receiver; I've been really happy with it.

Also, I'm curious but why do you want a CD player? I'd rather stream my music from my computer. Get a Logitech squeezebox touch to stream the music rather than a CD player. For speakers, take a look at PSB speakers (B6 or the B5) or the KEF Q300s.

Thanks for the inputs.

If the CD Player is discarded, would be good idea pairing an PM6004 Amp with a NR1002 AV Receiver

I would get a good Amp section for a 2ch Audio system and also a decent AV receiver for Home Theater 7.1 ch.

Im open to any other AV receiver so you can suggest any better than Marantz in AV for that price range.

Bear in mind my intention is to play FLAC/AAC/MP3 music from my USB/Computer.

Thanks!
