Marantz 7012 Keeps Shutting Off on its Own

I’m having issues with my Marantz SR7012 AV receiver. Whenever I listen to music from an external device via Bluetooth, or if it’s connected in the pre-amp via USB, it will randomly either shut off or switch to “TV Audio”. There is no real pattern to when this happens; I can listen to music for hours with no issues and sometimes, it will either switch “TV Audio” or shut off mid-song after 10 minutes. This does not happen when I use any HDMI connected device.

Any idea how I can fix this?

It also randomly turns on and its own in “TV Audio” mode when I’m not using it and then will shut off a few minutes later. That is far less annoying than when trying to listen to music and having it turn off!

Thanks for your help!

Almost sounds like an HDMI-CEC (control) issue. Have you done a soft reset (unplug the unit from power for a bit)? Try that and if no effect then do a full microprocessor/factory reset (per your manual).

I am at somewhat of a loss to explain why this happens on inputs other than HDMI. I suppose you could have a rogue device that has a DC potential on its output. So I would try disconnecting those inputs one at a time and see if you can identify such a device.

The other possibility is that you tend to play your HDMI connected devices at a lower volume level.

I'm inclined though to think you likely have a issue on the processing board. I would try a soft reset first. If that does not solve the problem then make a note of your settings and do a hard reset back to factory defaults. Try up to three resets before giving up. If this is successful you will have to update the firmware. DO NOT do this via Wi-Fi, but via wired Ethernet connection.

If all that fails then it is probably time to replace it. It is a six your old model and closing on seven, and so is getting to the end of the repair cycle.

If it comes to replacement, if you have the funds, I would seriously consider an AVP and external amps. I do think that provides a more robust and longer lasting installation. And it should.
