Has anyone seen it yet? I'm really looking forward to seeing this at the Theater with my daughter. I've read some amazing reviews by the public.

I'm going tonight. Hopefully it's died down a little.

Good movie. I thought Michael Shannon did a great job and did Terrance stamp proud. I don't know if I would call it great, but definitely worth seeing IMHO.

and the action is jam packed in the second half

which is really how it should be considering these are guys with super strength

i wonder how this does in the bass department (didn't notice as i was "in" the movie)

I thought that it was better than I expected. I've been burnt out on superhero 3D and wasn't really looking for yet another Superman reboot, but I ended up enjoying it. It definitely had the touch of Christopher Nolan, added in some decor touches of HR Giger, along with a pinch of Lovecraft, Prometheus and a dash of Philip K Di*k to come up with an ambitious story about the conflicts of those with superpowers, genetic engineering and a dying planet. Henry Cavill didn't do much damage as the Steel Guy (he didn't ADD much either), Amy Adams updated Lois Lane, the ace cub chick reporter, Russell Crowe came back from the dead as Jor-El (Super's dad) and Laurence Fishburne gets craggier each year as Perry White. Other actors (especially a lot of TV actors) are OK, but my favorite was Micheal Shannon as General Zod. He generally dives in and eats the scenery in all of his movies (especially the creepy Take Shelter) and as Zod, he's right in his element.

My least favorite part was the seriously overblown Superman-Zod fight scene in the 4th quarter. Once again in another movie, New York gets wrecked and we are treated to falling skyscrapers and people buried in rubble. The extended sequence really didn't add anything and made me wish for the pre-ordained end in which Superman wins.

As usual, 3D added very little to the already heavy dose of digital FX.

Ultimately, I'm glad I saw it, but I really wish that these producers would give superheros and 3D a rest for a while.

I saw this movie yesterday. Overall I liked it a lot. Compared to all the previous movies, I like this latest version the best. Of course, no superman movie could equal the 10 years of character development of Smallville. But as far as other 2-2.5 hour box office superman movies, I like Man of Steel the most. Definitely darker than the rest. But more realistic for a sci-fi flick. :D

I will certainly enjoy it more on BD than at the theater yesterday. My wife has to sit in the very back row. So there was this family (man, woman, 3 kids about 2-5 YO) and they were egregious. They gave people like that a bad name. Thank goodness the room was not full. And most of us got up and moved away from this repugnant family. Since my wife had to sit on the very back row, I just moved sideways 3 seats. It was better than nothing.

I'm not crazy about Superman even though its a Canadian invention. However, not having any of Reeves's Superman in my collection, I thought anty up and least put one in my collection. So I bought the BluRay/DVD combo pack at the local grocery store on sale. I will be watching it this weekend. Its gotten rave reviews from a visual/audio perspective from HomeTheaterShack..

I more or less agree with Ralph Pott's review over on AVS. It didn't have a blow you away story line and it didn't do anything that was too far removed from previous movies, but it did bring a few new things to the table and had a completely different tone than the one's before it. In end I thought it was well done, especially for a movie that looked like a big chunk of it was making sure it separated itself from the other Superman movies, provided background information, and a little character development for future movies.

One thing I did like was that it didn't beat you over the head with the whole background story. It got the main points across, threw in some action, and got on with it. Giving the viewer the benefit of the doubt, that they would already be familiar with the Superman story and not belaboring the point was a positive, IMO.

I watched it this weekend. From an eye/ear candy, this film delivers in spades and then some. You want bass? It's got tons of really deep bass. You want stunning visual effects? Its got them covered too.

As for action...it starts off with some mild action, goes to sleep and then one gets assaulted with non stop and I mean non stop action until the end. Its over the top really. The story line is well there I guess. Nothing to write home about.

Play this flick if you really want to impress your friends with your home theater setup. Its reference material. Turn off your critical mind while watching it and it will bring a smile to your face. I'm glad I bought it.

This movie was clearly for the MP3 generation. Lens flare, check. Shaky camera, check. Characters that mostly seem like cardboard cutouts, check. I agree with part of 3dB's assessment - eye and ear candy, but really nothing else...at all. Rental at best for me, and very glad I didn't buy it.

I watched it in the theater and thought it was meh.

I watched it again last night at home. Fry's was selling the BD for $9 so I thought what the hell.

Well...was it any better at home (when you can pause, grab a snack, drink, and so on)? :)

IMO, this version had only one redeeming quality, it left the glasses-as-a-disguise BS behind. Other than that, I couldn't even watch it to completion.

If the movie people had only thought to merge this with the last Star Trek we could be
having a much different conversation about a film called Man of Steel Into Darkness. :D
