I have a Harman Kardon AVR520 that i'm using as a preamp and a Rotel RMB-1075 amplifer to power my B&W Nautilus 803's. Recently my so called high quality interconnects failed on me which were made by signal cable. I have since decided to make my own interconnects. One pair of interconnects will go from HK to my Rotel amp, and the other set will go from my Rotel cdplay to the preamp. I have read alot on the topics here at audioholics and think im up to the task. My understanding is that twisted pair is the way to go as it prevents cross talk as each signal is 180 degrees out of phase so I was looking at this approach over a coaxial design. Also I would want a cable of low capacitance and resistance. If any one could provide some feedback on this I would appreciate it. Can any recommend a good quality RCA plug as well?

Thanks

The twisted pair design is only useful when you are using a balanced connection, namely an XLR-design. An RCA is inherently an unbalanced connection, so you will not gain anything by using a twisted pair design. All you need is some high-quality coax, a coax stripper, and RCA plugs of your choice.

Canare makes really nice plugs, but their tooling that cuts coax specifically for their plugs is expensive. I recommend that you check around Parts Express for reasonably priced terminations.

How old are the cables? Have you thought about taking them back? I had one AQ IC die after 2 years and the store that I bought them from exchanged the pair at no cost.

Jaxvon is right, twisted pair isn't going to buy you anything for analog ICs.

I'd also recommend you take a look at www.bluejeanscable.com Good ICs; no fluff, just good stuff and good pricing. They also compare the various Belden cables they use so you may find something useful for doing your DIYs.

Yes I have seen www.bluejeancables.com and have read there site before. I thought it would be more interesting to build my own. Can anybody recommend a good coxial cable to use?

Canare LV-77S, Belden 1694A, and Belden 1505F are all excellent coaxes. The first and last are stranded center conductors, making them more flexible and easier to route.
