Makin a System for under $150

The normal system costs more monies, but I wanted to try to make a system in the basement for under $150, not including the TV. It can play 5.1 but is much better in 2.1

JBL LX44 speakers for mains - $40 a pair - good condition- from a rummage sale I worked at. When you work for 10+ hours you get dibs on stuff before the public They also threw in about 100 feet of 14-gauge wire (unknonwn brand)

B&W ASW608 sub - $20 - excellent condition ( A kid left for college his family didn't know what it was or how to use it and sold it with 20ft cable at a gargae sale) BEST DEAL EVER

Harman Kardon AVR240 - $55 - fair condition It didn't come with the remote or Ezset mike, no HDMI but oh well

Sony APM X300 - $5 - fair condition - its a bad speaker I know, but I couldn't find a center channel so this one is just sideways below the TV

Boston Acoustics HD-5 - 5$ a pair - fair condition - the finnish is chipped and sadly one rumbles on low frequencies a bit so the x-over had to made high, which doesn't really matter from rummage sale

Sony CDP-CX400 - $10 - good condition, it works scratched up though rummage sale Its a 400 cd changer with optical out

Toshiba SDH-400 - $7 - good condition - its a tivo/dvd player with optical and compsite video out from rummage sale. the dvd player is meh, but Tivo is fun

Connects-This took a bit of fanagaling since I only have 8$ left I got one set of compsite cables, an optical cord and some nice RCA connectors from my neigbor when he down graded his Comcast servive to a non HD box, for five dollars I have no idea why Comcast let him have them but oh well. Another set of composite cables were purchased from the rummage for a dollar, no brand name but shielded nicely with gold connectors. I found RF cables around my house and some nice shielded RCA cables for a dollar.

Later I bought a candy bar (Snickers) for $1.06

Making the total cost $150.06

As I said before 2.1 sounds MUCh better than 5.1

The TV is a 36" Philips 720P LCD It has an abrasion in the top right of the screen, didn't have a remote or power cord. so It cost $150, bought before this system was concevied

I had a Logitech Harmony Remote For Xbox 360 around after I upgraded to a better remote, and used that for this system

Well there, it looks like we have a garage sale special here, and it looks like you did a hell of a job for 149 and damn ,candy bars are getting expensive sorta like gas and water. Good job making a usable system for pennies....Welcome to AH

Nice setup for the dough. Great deal on the sub. I might have sold the sub and recycled those funds back into the system, but it is one less thing you have to buy as it is.
