Major upgrade!!!

Just wanted to post this and thank all of those that helped me decide what to get for my MAJOR Home Theater upgrade. Thanks for answering questions and offering your advice!! I know it might not seem like much to those who have $ but it is huge compared to what I had.

I will be happy to help others in any way that I can and update you as it comes in!

Now don't laugh at the system I had, it was in my twenties, and now have survived the WAF syndrome of "the baby is sleeping, resting, in the room etc.: rolleyes:

Old System
Yamaha receiver was at least 15 years old, lost power to the speaker outputs (threw in the trash)
Yamaha NSA-738 fronts (for sale)
5.0 Infinity MPS Surround Speakers (for sale)
Toshiba 27" (one of the first ones with component jacks) (for sale with NIB DTVPAL+ converter)
Sanyo DVD/ VHS player DVW-6100 awaiting OPPO to retire (for sale)
Yamaha YST-SW150 Subwoofer (for sale)

New System
Logitech 880 (love their products) Know it is not the top of the line, but it does it's job and love doing everything with one push of the button, truly hassle free once setup.

Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020FD half price now wow! want to calibrate it once I have finished burn in, still deciding over using HCFR or Calman Amazing picture, new babysitter j/k funny thing is it is like the kids are mesmerized guess it won't be too funny when I want them to do something

Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH Automates well, looks fabulous and under 5 shipped what a bargain have not fully tested out because speakers have not arrived yet

OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray waiting patiently to be released.

SVS 5.0 Multi-channel SCS-01(M)'s w/SBS-01 surrounds & SVS PB12–NSDSpeakers being held up in production and waiting to set them up. Have heard tons of raves about the subs and speakers for HT which will be 80% of use. They are supposed to ship tomorrow, but will get a discount if they ship after, hope they ship Mon

Roku box Quality good on newer movies and PQ is 720p but is only in stereo. Great for watching on demand, can find a lot of science and educational titles along with TV series etc, worth every penny!

Skyangel IPTVonly has component connection. Has positive programming and is great for the children without all of the trash on OTA even get NFL and Discovery, love Dirty jobs, Deadliest Catch, and Mythbusters. Neulion does have a new HD Set top out with HDMI can't wait for it to be adopted!

Streem SR-490 Surround Bipoles Sound good but waiting on rest to dial in.

APC H15 Power Conditioner bought from this forum $149. Will be here tomorrow half price & free shipping. Can't believe that monster wants 1.5k for something that filters EMF and RF like this one does: eek:

Getting Analog RS sound meter and Avia II DVD What shoul I expect for setup???

I love my VSX-01TXH. And the speakers are pretty nice. The sub is insane.... Hope you know how big it is. It's a giant but well worth it!!

If you have an automated eq system just use that. It's easier to do and will setup everything for you. I do suggest bumping the center channel 2 or 3 db to give it a bit extra for the dialogue.

Harmony 880

I have had this one for a while and it is a great remote. It single handedly made my HT WAF go through the roof.

It has some quirks though...

1) (biggest annoyance) Issues with charging base. It never made a good contact and eventually stopped making contact altogether. I had to do open heart surgery on it to change the contact mechanism. Works fine now.

2) Even with signal delay at minimum, it takes some time to run through a macro like start up or shut dowm.

3) LCD screen is flakey and is now showing a lot of degradation

4) Not the most ergonomic button layout

Speakers are on their way and will be here all 200 pounds of them on the 17th (SCS from SVS and PB12). I hooked up the APC power conditioner, it is a beast 28 pounds, might have to reinforce my floor for the system j/k

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but I was wondering how you liked the steem sr-490 bipolar surrounds? I'm thinking about getting them.

Bummer on the display, tried to upgrade software and it crashed my PDP5020FD so they have to come out this week and change the main board. Hope the speakers go better on Tuesday.

Actually I would sell them to you with the original box becuase SVS came out with a set that would better match my other ones. Just PM me.

Update system is going strong for over 2 years and still happy! But for audio would like floor standing set, still I use for 75% Home Theater so not sure I want to pay the $

Pioneer enough on the Kuro actually tech did fix for free and has been going strong. Even have service remote to adjust color better Set is still better than anything I have seen in store yet!

SVS on the speakers best bet for the money!!
