Well this takes the cake! I posted a thread on no clairity with my polk CS1 center, I was thinking either my receiver (HK 125) was screwy or it was just my speakers. I had no front imaging, center was muddled ect. well I checked my DVD player audio menu to make sure the bitstream was on and it was but also the dynamic compression was on and a 96khz?down converter(pcm?) something was on too!! as soon as I turn them off wow!!! What a difference! Talk about being stupid!! Thanks all for the help and I hope this will help someone else like me!!(it would be a sad thing if it was only me!):D

Glad you got it sorted out, but you are definitely not alone. It happens to everyone - the longer you look at it the more correct it looks until you take a break and look again and easily see the mistake.

The dynamic compression in the dvd player was the culprit. The 96 kHz downsampling will likely never be a problem but you should leave it off if the receiver has 96 kHz or greater DACS. The purpose of that setting is for when you have a DVD with 96 kHz sampling. The player will downsample it to 48 khz. But have you ever seen a DVD with 96 kHz sampling? Me neither.

Thanks, ya I never knew that the 96Khz did, I spent unknow number of hours looking at new speakers and receivers and the $ was going up thinking of what I would need (not that's bad by any means!) I was just not ready yet. Now I can take my time.
