Magneplanar MG-I Loudspeakers.....
I just obtained these speakers...for free!
( I don't think that my neighbor knew what they were...)
They are in excellent shape on the exterior, and seem to work when I plugged them in although I haven't been able to really set them up yet.
Can anyone give me some in site about these? I know that they are old but from what I have read so far the worst that could go wrong is some complications with the tweeters? How about fixing them if they do have problems? Any insight will help me with these since they, and the Megnepan it self, are totally new to me.
Thanks

Great price!
Good speakers. They need good solid state amp that's capable of 4 ohm loads. Underpowered amp may distort and blow the tweeters (or so I've been told by Magnepan).
I blew the tweeter on 3.5R within a month with a 100wpc Onkyo separate power amplifier. Replacement was easy (2 screws) and tweeter was under warranty. Switched to AVA Fet Valve 550 and haven't had any problems for last 12 years.
Placement is sometimes difficult. Keep them at list 2ft away from the walls if possible.
Good luck.

MG-1's

1975 vintage, if they still work you are lucky. Magnepan I think will still fix-em or sell you a repair kit (the work needs lotsa space & ventilation) not to mention patience. Give them at least 125 good curent carrying watts aside into 4 ohms and they will sing. Very detailed & imediate great soundstage. Keep em at Least 3ft. from the rear wall. I was a kid when I got my first pair I walked into the showroom not knowing those were the speakers playing but was freaked.............
