Does anyone own these speakers or know anything about the quality?

The Cambridge Audio distributor in Germany has a Magnepan concession so I have used them now and again. If you have the space and you do not need earthshaking bass, they have a fabulous mid and upper, can cope with "super audio" formats with disdain and produce a monster soundstage.

The problem is that once you listen to the big ones, the others just won't do.

The smaller ones that retail for about $550.00 a pair are one of the best kept secrets of the audio industry. Amazing high-end sound for such a small price. Coupled with a subwoofer you could not go wrong provided you have the proper room to set them up. I would love to try 5 of them one day in a HT setup.

The Magnepan 1.6QR's are possibly the best buy in audio. $1600 a pair and worth every penny. The other products from Magnepan are no slouches. IMHO Magnepan has never made a bad speaker. Given they do not have head banging bass they have every thing else. You can always add a subwoofer.
