I was researching these and saw that ssabraio(sp?) on AVS is doing four of them in sealed enclosures to replace his monster dual sono-tubes.

shervin sabripo (ssabripo) -> it took me quite a few seconds to type that :)

i knew ssabripo was building 4 sealed drivers, but was just about to ask what drivers ... hmmm. i wonder how low these guys can be EQ'ed to. ssabripo's previous ported subs were tuned to 10hz ... so these sealed drivers should at least match his 10hz output if he wants an upgrade or at least to match his old pair... right?

I want to see several experiments with this driver:

1) Add some water and do some more sweeps (film in slo-mo)
2) How hard can you drive it before it breaks?
3) I want to know EXACLY how far it can launch a golf ball from a dead stop
4) What size bowling ball can it lift?
5) Can you hammer a nail with it? What size?

Seriously - this is just wasted opportunity here!

Hi guys,

I'm gonna do a mix batch of Maelstrom X18 and Avalanche 18"s...here are the lonely 3 drivers left:

here is one of the completed ones:

plans (bracing is incorrect in this pic..there is much more bracing):

cutout:

all the build info is in my two towers thread over at avs

from your initial graphs, it would seem that it's unlikely you would be getting flat to 10hz, something your ported ones easily does, correct?

or will you apply a low end boost when all 4 are running?

correct. will be adding low end boost via L/T with the DEQ2496.

that should make the quad sealeds keep up with the two ported troughout the low bandpass up until the ported subs' tunning point (12.5hz), at which point, the sealed will be more powerful below that.

Hey Sherv....

I'm looking forward to your results with these drivers... with a little boost, and ample power they should really produce. Sealed is so much easier to do and multiples are much easier for room placement...

So ssabripo, you not happy with the Towers of Power anymore or you just getting the itch to try something new?
