MacIntosh Amps

Are they as good as their reputation? Are they worth the cost they go for? What other ones would
you choose?

While I'd love to inherit one, they are sexy, but I don't see what they're going to do for me for the expense involved. I'm happy with a Crown XLS1500 if I need an amp and I've got several of those because they are affordable (I'm for getting the job done with minimal expense).

Aesthetically Mcintosh amps are very appealing. However, between the autoformer and price tag there are quite a few options I'd explore first. Used Threshold comes to mind for two channel.

Macintosh amps don't sound any better or worse than any other good amps like ATI, Parasound, Anthem, etc.

They sound as good as any other high end brand. They look better than most. AND, and this is the biggest AND, they hold their resale value like no other. If I was spending close to $40,000 on electronics, I would get a brand that not only sounds good, but that I could sell and get some of my investment back.

Well, none of our hobbies are "investments". At least none of mine are; audio, cars, guns, cigars.... I loose on all, specially Cigars. ;-)
