Here is a useful tip for any of you mac owners. All of the intel macs and I believe even some of the newer G4 laptops have a dual purpose jack combined with the audio out and in. It is both analog and optical. If you get one of these adapters you can stream uncompressed PCM to your receiver or processor. This solved a lot of issues for me. If you are importing with apple lossless or Aiff then you won't have any loss of fidelity. Throw in a 500gb drive and the mac mini becomes a great music server.

Airport Express has the same jack and that allows use of iTunes without moving the computer. Also, some optical cables come with the TosLink tips.

I didn't know the computers had the same jack, though. I may be able to use that soon. Any chance the MacBook Mini has it?

I thought the cheapest model was called that. It's the least expensive laptop from a couple of years ago.

Just macbook the mac mini's are a compact desktop. It does sound like a good idea for an apple netbook though. Has a nice ring to it. Macbook mini :)

You might have noticed that I'm not an Apple guy. I do a little with them but I don't keep up on which is the newest and bestest. I know about the Mac Mini but I thought they added 'Mini" to the low-end lapper. It's not very big.

They revamped the macbook line and dropped all the polycarbonite models but one. The rest are all one piece machined aluminum.
