M&K speakers, need non M&K subwoofer

I was planning to get the MX-350 or MX-150 to finish out my 7.1 system.
S-150's front and center, SS-150 surrounds. Now M&K is out of business.
Can anyone advise on the best matching sub for this system that's not M&K?
Receiver is Onkyo TXDS-989. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome. What kind of budget do you have? What are the other requirements regarding size and appearance?

Yes, that would help. Budget depends on quality of sound but roughly 1k to 2k dollars. Appearance is matte black. Sound matters more than shape of speaker itself.
Also, the room is 22' long X 18' wide X 18' tall. It opens to a large kitchen on one side and a large dining area on the other. To complicate matters there is a full length balcony 9' over the AV equipment.

There are a lot of great subwoofers that will mate well with your system. Go to the A/V stores in your area and listen to different subs to see what you like. It is much easier to put a different sub into your system and still have it sound great than it is to mix and match speakers. Most well made subs from reputable manufacturers should work.

If you look around you should be able to find some excellent deals on the M&K subs you listed. It is still an extremely well made product but I understand you being hesitant or not wanting to risk having issues now that the factory is closed. I don't recall seeing too many other brands that were similar in design, dual 12" sealed sub in a push-pull configuration, maybe EAW, but I'm not sure.

I would say a pair of subwoofers would work best for you, both for achieving your desired output level, and helping with smooth bass response across the listening area. A pair of either of these would work very well:

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have some M&K 150's and need to replace my Velodyne UD12 since the rubber that attaches the cone to the frame is shot. Velodyne offers a great discount to me but the sub is small for my room. I am looking at the SVS PC Ultra since it is only a couple hundred more then a DD12 from Velodyne after my discount. I don't know how you can really go wrong with one of these.

Velo suggested that he just buy a DD12 for just 1000 dollars.

personally, I think that's a good deal.

SMS-1 = 500 bucks
new surrounds = 100 bucks
new DD12 = definitely MORE than 1000 bucks.

RaT, if I read mike c's post correctly it is only $100 for replacement surrounds. If you're happy with the sub, that sounds pretty affordable to me. Of course you can never really go wrong with having two subs. I'd probably get the bigger badder beast and fix the old one, then use them both.

When I upgraded my sub, I kept my old one and use them both. I like it much more than having just one sub. Then, if I'm watching movies late at night, I can just turn the bigger one off and still enjoy movies without p!ssing off my neighbors too much.

My old Velodyne is not repairable. I wanted to get a new woofer for it, but that sub no longer has any replacement parts. They offered me a DD12 for about $1900 under list price if I send them my old complete ULD12. I cannot upgrade in size to a DD15 or DD18 for example. For that matter, I cannot downsize to the DD10 either .
