It really depends on what you value. They are very high quality speakers and are used in many, many recording studios due to their accuracy. Is it overkill for you? Perhaps. If you've auditioned the M&K speakers and love them more than anything else you've heard, then it's probably worth the cash. However, if you find another speaker for less money that you like better, then it's a better deal. Just because M&K is supposed to be "better" doesn't mean that you'll like it more. As speakers (and room acoustics) are the main players in the sound of your system, speakers are highly subjective and personal choices. I would recommend that you check out M&K and compare them to other speakers. You might just find something you like better for less money.
